In this episode of Fast Action Fridays, Dr Alice Hudnall Cash, explains how her early childhood interest in music blossomed into a lifelong career as a clinical musicologist and therapist. Plus, how her idea came to fruition to put soothing, steady music on cordless headphones for patients having surgery in order to reduce anxiety medications, pain medication and even anesthesia.

Dr Alice is also a college music professor and exceptionally skilled classical pianist. In 1990, Dr Alice became interested in the power of Music as Medicine.

Just before Christmas 2019, the Kindle version of Dr Cash’s new book, Having Surgery? Using Music to Reduce Anxiety and Pain Perception, became available. Click here to see it on Amazon.

I was first introduced to Dr Alice in May 2019 by a mutual business friend. It was my pleasure to then work with Dr Alice on her book project until its completion, providing editorial assistance and marketing consulting.

Music has always had a profoundly healing power and there are certain rhythms and note combinations that resonate with our natural rhythms and the natural rhythm of the universe. Pythagoras knew this in ancient times, but many are still unaware of it. Dr. Alice Cash is a pioneer in spreading the awareness of it around the world with her highly educated knowledge of the correlation between music and medicine and the calming and centering properties of music not only during surgery but during times of general stress and anxiety. This is a revelatory and inspiring interview.

I’m in complete agreement with you, Derrick. Dr Alice’s definitely a pioneer. Her insights, suggested use, and proprietary playlists have already helped so many.

Thank you for taking time to share your comment.

Derrick, thank you so much for your kind and supportive comments! Look forward to hearing about how much calms and comforts you when you’re feeling physical or emotional pain. Would you agree that making music is even better than passive listening? 🙂
